Who is eligible for Medi-Cal in Santa Clara County?

Medi-Cal is available to Santa Clara County residents who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, legal aliens, or U.S. nationals.

I’m an immigrant. Can I get Medi-Cal?

It depends on your immigration status. Here’s what you need to know:

Most Immigrants Qualify for Health Coverage.

Under the Affordable Care Act, most immigrants qualify for health coverage, including the following groups:

  • Lawful permanent residents or (“green card holders”).
  • Lawful temporary residents.
  • Persons fleeing persecution, including refugees and asylees.
  • Other humanitarian immigrants, including those granted temporary protected status.
  • Non-immigrant status holders (including worker visas and student visas).

All children 0-18 that are able to get Medi-Cal can get complete health care through Medi-Cal.

Their immigration status does not matter.

Does Medi-Cal Dental cover Dental Checkups?

Yes. Dental check-ups are free or low-cost for Medi-Cal members eligible for dental benefits.

Additionally, Adults can have one dental check-up every year, while children can have a check-up every six months.

Will Medi-Cal pay for transportation?

Yes. If you’re covered by a Medi-Cal plan, your benefits include free transportation to and from health care appointments.

To qualify, you must have no other way to get to the appointment.

You will have to attest to your Managed Care Provider that you have exhausted all options for getting transportation to and from your appointment.

What disqualifies someone from becoming an IHSS Provider?

If an individual has a Tier 1 conviction in the last 10 years, they are barred from being an IHSS provider.

  • A felony for which a person is required to register as a sex offender
  • Felony fraud against a public social services program.
